Cosi fan Tutte (w.A. Mozart)

This reduction for thirteen instruments represents the complete score of the 1790 Viennese premiere, including all numbers, alternate numbers, and recitatives, as represented by the authorized critical edition issued by Bärenreiter in 2006.

The clarinet, horn and trumpet parts are written in the original keys indicated in the critical edition. The two horn parts can be condensed to one.

Instrumentation:

1,1,1,1 / 2,1 / pno. / 2, 1,1,1

“The Windels arrangement was ideal for our university/community event. Operas as a rule are a big financial endeavor and this scaled-down arrangement was a great advantage, as well as being a beautiful translation of the original. The response to the performance, thanks in part to this arrangement, was extremely enthusiastic.”

“I would never have guessed that our chamber music festival could perform a Mozart opera, and I must admit to some skepticism when I was told of a reduction of Cosi fan Tutte for 13 instruments.  But given that the recommendation for it came from no less a discerning artist than soprano Christine Goerke, the idea was intriguing. Windels' beautiful reduction permitted us to perform this peerless work by the Resident Artists of Detroit Opera and Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings. It was incredibly well received by the audience - and more tellingly, by the players. An ingenious, effective and lovingly prepared transcription..”
